HAVASUPAI
This Xanadu backpacking adventure takes place in the majestic Grand Canyon among a spectacular series of waterfalls in the western canyon. These waterfalls rival any tropical paradise in the world, and they are truly an anomaly in the desert southwest. An adventurous spirit is required for any who embarks on this journey. Havasu Falls is the indigenous home of the Havasupai Tribe, who have lived here for over 800 years. There are no roads to Supai, and it is the only place in the US where mail is carried by pack mules.

ITINERARY
Day 1 Thursday, May 31st
Leave LA/OC early morning to meet at Havasupai Trailhead for a sunset potluck.  We will camp on the Hilltop under the stars together and will be preparing for our 4 am journey into the canyon.

Day 2 Friday, June 1st 4 am
Start the 10-mile moonlight trek with a 2,500-foot descent in the first hour deep into the canyon with everything you need for the week in your backpack. The trail to Havasupai switchbacks down until it reaches a dry streambed and levels out. The canyon walls seem to grow taller alongside the trail as you descend deeper into the labyrinthine red sandstone of Hualapai Canyon. At mile 8, the canyon begins to widen and the vegetation turns lush as you enter the village of Supai, the most remote village in the U.S. where even the mail still arrives by packhorse. The village has a small restaurant to eat breakfast, a small produce store and bathrooms. At this point, we will check the group into the campground. Each person will get a wristband that will stay on for the duration of the adventure.

A little further down the trail, we will hike to pass New Navajo Falls (70 ft), Rock Falls (35 ft) and Havasu Falls (110 ft.) and here under Havasu Falls, we will set up camp! Unload and relax, you earned it. Use the afternoon to explore the Havasupai campgrounds which has a small river that runs through where you can swim, bath, and relax in. The campgrounds also has well-kept toilet rooms, a spring you can drink from, a ranger station... and huge canyon walls on both sides.

Sleep under the stars in your hammock or tent for a peaceful night of slumber.

Day 3 Saturday, June 2nd
Awaken in camp, nestled beneath the towering cottonwood trees along the banks of Havasu Creek and a short walk from the canyon’s enormous waterfalls. Start the day off with fresh-brewed coffee and yoga. Hike to Havasupai Falls and Mooney Falls.

Day 4 Sunday, June 3rd
Embark on the 4-mile hike to Beaver Falls. Cross tropical blue streams, explore hidden caverns and wade through lush meadows of wild grapevines. Clamber up narrow side canyons with red rock walls towering thousands of feet overhead. Even take a swim beside a 200 ft. waterfall this is a day that will not be forgotten.

Day 5 Monday, June 4th
The scenery and magic of Havasupai and its majestic waterfalls will make you never want to leave, but after an early breakfast, it is time to pack up and conquer the canyon! Hike back to Supai Village (2 miles) and prepare for another epic adventure on a helicopter through the Grand Canyon back to the hilltop. The Helicopter is an additional $85 per person paid on site. Helicopter hours are 10am-1pm and is on a first-come-first-serve basis so we want to arrive at 8 am and be the first ones in line.

Leave feeling rejuvenated and enlightened. You did it!

FOOD
Xanadu will be providing some snack, meals and sponsored gifts for the adventure however
you will be responsible for bringing your own food. MRE's (Meals ready to eat) are the ideal backpacking food. You will be carrying all of your supplies on your back or my mule.  Bring your own mess Kit (Cup, Bowl, Plate, Spork) and JetBoil fuel. We will probably have enough people in our group that have JetBoil stoves to heat up our food but everyone should bring extra fuel. No reusable water bottles & remember what you pack in, you pack out.

We will be making a stop in the village about 10 miles into the hike where they offer fruits and some canned foods, however, this food is limited.

PACKING LIST
Will be sent to you after your reservation is complete.

TRIBE
We will be linking everyone up on a private Facebook group and will be dishing out packing tips and ride sharing forms. This will be our tool to support the group with all the information needed to ensure a safe and fulfilling adventure.
